Material Calcs

The Material Calcs tool is designed to perform common calculations based on steel chemistry.

For carbon and low alloy steels, these include:
  • Carbon equivalent (CEQ) using the IIQ formula.
  • The Hydrogen Scale and appropriate figure to use for Method A of EN 1011-2  C.2 or ISO TR 17671-2 A.2
  • pcm
  • CET (carbon equivalent used by EN 1011-2 and ISO TR 17671-2 Method B)
  • Minimum recommended preheat according to above specifications.
For stainless steels and nickel alloys, the calculations include:
  • PREN
  • Cr and Ni equivalents for use with the Schaeffler diagram.
Results are stored in the database and can be exported, printed, or saved as a PDF file.

For the 800-500°C Cooling Times, the equations in EN 1011-2 / ISO TR 17671-2 appendix D are used.
Specifically:

  • 3-dimensional t8/5 is calculated using equation D2 and a shape factor F3=0.67
  • 2-dimensional t8/5 is calculated using equation D4 and a shape factor F2=0.45
  • The higher of the two values is reported.

This gives a practical one-size-fits-all calculation for general purposes.
The Bayoumi dimensionless calculation is also shown.

Note that the EN/ISO methodology is slightly different to that used in the iOS App which only uses the Bayoumi method.
The latest version of the Android App shows both calculations.
